What to Expect
During the rehearsal I will work with you or your child on the timing, dynamics, pitch, rhythm, tone quality, performance skills and musical interpretation. I am fully registered VIT teacher and have more than 15 years teaching experience in teaching piano, general classroom, specialist classroom music and choir. My aim in these sessions is more than simply running through the music. The session will complement your/your child’s lessons with their regular music teacher and will give you/your child a chance to work with another qualified music professional to enhance your/your child’s performance.

What does the fee cover?
When you make an inquiry, I take time to sight read the score to see whether I can prepare the music to performance standard within the timeframe, along with my current commitments. If we have agreed on a booking, there is administrative time spent on printing the music, checking that page turns are in appropriate places, my personal practice time, time spent listening to various recordings of your piece to better understand how to perform it. Then there is the actual face to face rehearsal with you/your child where we work on the ensemble and put it all together. So although you may book for a one hour rehearsal, there is a lot of time spent prior to the rehearsal in preparation and administration.

My Sheet Music Policy
Sheet music should be sent to me 2 weeks prior to the first rehearsal with any cuts, repeats or any other changes to the written arrangement clearly marked. Please check that your music in the correct key. Sheet music should be in a single PDF document. A posted printed copy is also fine and preferable for documents longer than 20 pages, but please factor in postage time.

For pieces under approximately grade 6 AMEB standard, I may be able to sight read the piano part at rehearsal. However, this is a guide only, as some music below grade 6 standard can have challenging rhythmic, harmonic, or ensemble elements. VCE and Uni auditions are considered grade 6 and above.

If we agree to a booking with less than 1 weeks’ notice of the first rehearsal and you have not sent me the sheet music, the quality of the piano accompaniment may be compromised as I must prioritise prior commitments in my personal rehearsal and preparation process.
